A protesting student tries to set himself on fire by pouring petrol in the VC secretariat.
With the beginning of the election year in Rajasthan University, political turmoil has also started. Troubled by the HOD of Public Administration Department in Rajasthan University on Friday, a student tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol on himself. After which the police, who reached the spot, pacified the matter on persuasion. However, the university administration has kept silence on this entire controversy.
Actually, the semester exams of the students are going on in the Public Administration Department of Rajasthan University. Meanwhile, admit cards of about 15 students were withheld for the examination to be held on Friday. In protest against which a student warned of self-immolation by pouring petrol. During this, the student poured petrol on himself in the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat and shouted slogans against the HOD of the department, Om Mahala, demanding permission to give the exam by showing a matchbox.
Protesting student Dhanraj Chowdhary alleged that students are mentally tortured in the Public Administration Department. Admit cards of many students have been withheld. Those who are not able to appear in the main examinations. A student raises voice against the HOD. So he is threatened to fail.
The protesting students had reached the Vice-Chancellor Secretariat filled with petrol in a cold drink bottle.
Chaudhary said that even before this two cases of harassment are going on against the HOD. His term has come to an end. Still he was not removed from the post. We are also pleading with the Vice Chancellor for the last 3 days. But we are not being heard. That’s why now they have to commit suicide by pouring petrol. Om Mahala and the university administration are responsible for this.
Student leader Rohit Meena said that there are around 15 students from the Public Administration Department. Those who requested the HOD to conduct mid term exam later due to SSC CGL exam. During that time he was given a verbal assurance that the exam would be held later. After this when mid term exams were conducted. So no notification was issued for that.
Because of which many students were deprived of giving the exam. Since then the students have been sitting on dharna outside the HOD’s room since 3 days. Applications have been given to everyone from the Vice Chancellor to the Governor. But no hearing is taking place. That’s why the student will try to commit suicide by being sad.
However, seeing the police who reached the spot after informing about this whole incident, the student who committed suicide by pouring petrol on himself fled from there. On the other hand, the university administration has kept silence on this whole controversy.
On the other hand, Public Administration Department HOD Om Mahala termed the allegations of the students as fabricated and said that the students who remained absent or failed in any subject in the mid term. They were not allowed to appear for the semester exam related subject. This is a regular process. The student is required to score around 25% marks in the mid term. The student who poured petrol on himself. He has failed in mid term. Still insisting on being included in the main examination.
